Terms of service

Using Skriptly, buying licenses, the loader, and selling your scripts.

These terms cover using Skriptly: browsing and downloading scripts, buying licenses, running licensed scripts through the Skriptly Loader, and selling your own scripts. Skriptly is run by TheBestHarrison, a sole trader in the United Kingdom trading as Skriptly, at UK. "We" and "us" below mean them. You can reach us at support@the-best.uk.

1. Your account

  • You need an account to download, buy, review or sell. Keep your details accurate and your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
  • You must be at least 13 to have an account. To buy anything you must be 18 or over, or have a parent's or guardian's permission; by buying, you confirm you're 18 or have that permission. To sell you must be 18 or over, and Stripe, which pays creators, has its own requirements too.
  • One person per account. Accounts can't be sold or transferred.
  • We can suspend, ban or close an account that breaks these terms. A banned account can't use the site; we'll show you the reason unless the law or an ongoing investigation stops us.

2. Free scripts

Free scripts are published by their creators, not by Skriptly. Unless the creator gives other terms in the listing, you can use and change a free script on servers you run, but you can't republish it or sell it, changed or not.

3. Buying a license

  • When you buy a script you get a license to use it, not ownership of the code. What you can do with it is set out in the license terms for the template shown at checkout.
  • Who you're buying from. The creator grants the license. We sell it on their behalf: we take the payment, deliver the script through the loader, and handle refunds, so for anything about your purchase you deal with us.
  • Prices are in pounds sterling and include any VAT we have to charge.
  • Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see your full card details.
  • Your license starts as soon as it's created, and you get every update the creator publishes to that script for as long as it's on Skriptly.
  • Bundles. A creator can sell several of their paid scripts together at one price. You pay once, but you get a separate license for each script, on that script's own terms, and the price is split between the scripts in proportion to what they cost separately. If you already own some of them you pay a proportional price for the rest.
  • Refunds are covered by the refund policy. Your legal rights as a consumer aren't affected by anything in these terms.

4. The Skriptly Loader

  • Licensed scripts run through the Skriptly Loader, a server plugin that fetches the script from Skriptly, decrypts it in memory and hands it to Skript. The decrypted script is never written to disk.
  • The loader checks in with Skriptly while your server runs. If it can't reach us, a script it has already loaded keeps working for up to 72 hours. What the loader sends us is described in the privacy policy.
  • Every copy is watermarked to the license it was sold under. The loader deters casual copying and makes a leaked copy traceable to its license. It isn't unbreakable, and these terms, not the software, are what forbid sharing.
  • Don't try to extract, decrypt, copy or share a licensed script, remove its watermarks, or get around seat limits or check-ins.

5. Selling on Skriptly

If you publish a script, you also agree that:

  • It's yours to sell. You wrote it, or you have the rights to publish it on these terms. Leaked, cracked or copied scripts aren't allowed.
  • You give Skriptly permission to run the marketplace with it: to store, scan, review, display, encrypt, watermark and deliver it to buyers, and to show its name, description and screenshots anywhere on Skriptly. This lasts while the script is listed, and afterwards for buyers who already have a license.
  • Every version is reviewed. Each upload is scanned and checked by a person before it goes live. Approval isn't a promise that a script is safe or bug-free, and it doesn't make Skriptly responsible for it.
  • You describe it honestly, including which Minecraft, Skript and addon versions it works with. Buyers rely on that when they buy, and it's what refunds are judged against.
  • Bundles are yours to price, within limits. A bundle holds 2 to 10 of your own paid scripts and has to cost less than buying them separately. Each sale of a bundle is recorded as a sale of each script, for its share of the price, and earns you that share less the fee below.
  • You're paid through Stripe. To sell, you set up a Stripe Connect account from your settings, and Stripe's Connected Account Agreement applies between you and Stripe. When a script sells, Stripe pays your share to that account, and from there to your bank on Stripe's payout schedule. Until your account is ready, your paid scripts can't be bought.
  • Skriptly takes a fee of 15% of each sale, or 10% while you have Seller+ (below). The fee is fixed when the sale happens, and covers the card fees Stripe charges us.
  • Refunds and chargebacks come out of the sale. If a sale is refunded under the refund policy, or a buyer's bank reverses it, your share is taken back from your Stripe balance and we return our fee, so each of us gives back what we got. We'll tell you when it happens.
  • Your taxes are yours. You're responsible for declaring what you earn from Skriptly and paying any tax on it. Stripe may ask for tax details and report earnings to tax authorities where the law requires.
  • Seller+ is optional. It's a paid membership for creators. While it's active, the fee on your new sales is 10% instead of 15%, and you get a few extras (a badge, more screenshots, longer analytics, links on your profile, and a chance to appear in the home page's clearly labelled "Promoted" strip, which rotates daily, shows at most one script per creator, and isn't guaranteed). You buy it for a set period, 1 or 12 months, and it doesn't renew by itself. When it ends the fee goes back to 15% on new sales and the extras stop, but sales you already made keep the rate they were made at. Seller+ doesn't change how scripts are reviewed or ranked. You buy it for your selling, so consumer cancellation rights don't usually apply; either way, you ask for it to start straight away and lose any right to cancel once it has. If we can't provide it (for example Skriptly closes), we refund the unused part. The price includes any VAT we have to charge. Promoted places are labelled "Promoted" and explained as paid placement wherever they appear.
  • You may be a trader. If you sell regularly or to make money, consumer law may treat you as a trader selling to buyers. Your listings have to be honest and complete either way (below), and buyers' rights in the refund policy apply to every sale.
  • You support what you sell within reason: answering questions about it and fixing problems with the versions you list.
  • It follows the content policy. We can remove a version or take down a script that doesn't, and revoke licenses if a script turns out to be harmful.
  • If you stop selling a script, people who bought it keep their licenses.
  • If Skriptly closes, you agree that buyers can be given a final copy of each paid script of yours they hold an active license for (below).

6. Reviews and reports

Only people who have a script can review it. Keep reviews honest and about the script. Anyone can report a script or review that breaks the rules; moderators decide what happens.

7. When we act

If someone leaks a licensed script, breaks the content policy or abuses Skriptly, we may revoke licenses, remove content, or suspend accounts. For leaks we check the watermark and the license's history before revoking.

If you think we got a decision wrong, email support@the-best.uk within 30 days saying which decision and why. Someone who wasn't involved in it will look again where we can, and we'll reply within 14 days. This doesn't affect your legal rights.

8. Availability

We work to keep Skriptly and the licensing service running, but can't promise they'll never be down. The loader's 72-hour offline allowance is there so short outages don't stop your server.

If we ever close Skriptly, we'll give at least 90 days' notice by email and on the site. Licensed scripts keep loading until it closes, and before then every buyer can download a final copy of each paid script they hold an active license for, watermarked as usual, to keep running without the loader under the same license terms. Unused Seller+ time is refunded.

9. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't legally be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

Otherwise, scripts are made by independent creators, and we're not liable for losses caused by a script, by running it on your server, or by an outage, beyond the amount you paid for the script in question. We're not liable for losses we couldn't reasonably have foreseen.

If you use Skriptly for a business, including selling scripts or running a server for profit, we're not liable for lost profits, revenue or data, and our total liability to you in any 12 months is limited to the fees we earned from your sales in that time, or £100 if that's more.

10. Changes and law

We'll give notice of material changes to these terms by email or on the site before they apply. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you're a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings there.
